This unusual antique hand made tinplate toy magic lantern is about 9″ long x 10″ tall x 4-1/4″ thick and the glass lens is about 3/4″ in diameter. Lens turns and slides in and out to focus. The candle powered magic lantern is primitive but very sturdy and well made and it has beautiful cut out designs on both sides and chimney. There is some normal wear for a piece this age, and I believe there is a door latch missing, but aside from this, it is in very good original condition and it still works. This looks to be the oldest one of these magic lanterns I have ever had. My best guess as to age is circa 1860s-1880s. Very unusual!
