SOLD This stunning four-panel inlaid Chinese coromandel style folding screen is a work of art.
The front of the screen depicts a large group of women at their work and leisure centered around a temple. It is done with excellent attention to finest detail. Gold background is richly painted and seems to glow. The figures are not painted on, but are actually inlaid using semi precious stones, ivory, and carved jade. The black reverse side is hand painted with a very open but detailed scene.
This is a late 19th-very early 20th century production. With the splendidly engraved inlaid characters, the softly glowing lacquer and paint, and the amazing and open design, this is undoubtedly one of the most elegant of the folding screens ever produced.
