One of a kind set! Done in approximately 1940’s for a Marathon Oil executive who was assigned there. They brought it back to the states when they retired and I purchased it through an antique dealer.
This hand-carved extensive living room set is absolutely fantastic, and is one of the highlights of the estate sale. The unbelievable level of intricacy and life-like detail cannot be captured in a photo; the wavelets on the river water seem to sparkle, and even the wrinkles in the skin on the ox at the rivers edge seem almost real. Each palm frond is visible in the trees, as are the straws that make up the thatching on the villagers huts. The trees are three dimension as you can reach behind them.
This amazing artistic work depicts a bucolic Vietnamese village in a moment of their daily lives. This stunning set combines to form a panorama, and each feature scene is carved with portions of the village going about their day. The rich and vibrant colors of the wood grain are softly blended into the spectacular carvings design.
Many devoted years of work were required to produce this remarkable work of art. It is without doubt a unique set. Every surface that can be carved is engraved with either the marvelous main scenes, or with intricate scrolling bloom centered designs. Each of the legs is decorated with flowing dragons, which in Vietnamese culture symbolize nobility, power and blessings.
This is an unsurpassed set of furniture which includes: one full length couch, one full length coffee table, two end tables, and three chairs.
